Hari Raya Kuningan is a Hindu holy day celebrated once every 210 days, precisely 10 days after Galungan. This celebration has a meaning as a form of respect and worship to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa and ancestral spirits who have descended to the world during Galungan. On this day, Hindus believe that the ancestral spirits return to heaven after receiving prayers and offerings from their descendants. Therefore, Hindus perform prayers in temples and merajans (family shrines) with gratitude.
A distinctive feature of Hari Raya Kuningan is the use of special offerings called canang kuningan, which is decorated with janur and is yellow in color as a symbol of prosperity and wisdom. In addition, there are tamiang (circle-shaped) decorations that symbolize protection, as well as endongan as a symbol of provision for life. This celebration is carried out since morning and must be completed before noon, because it is believed that the gods and ancestors return to their realm before noon. Hari Raya Kuningan is a deeply spiritual moment for Hindus to express gratitude, ask for safety, and maintain a harmonious relationship with ancestors and God.
