The Siat Yeh tradition in Badung, Bali is a unique Balinese tradition of water wars as a symbol of self-cleansing and respect for nature. The ritual is usually performed in a river or holy spring, where participants splash water on each other using their hands or simple containers. This tradition is believed to eliminate negative auras and bring blessings and fertility to the local community.
In its implementation, Siat Yeh involves people of various ages who gather with enthusiasm and togetherness. Aside from being part of a traditional ceremony, this tradition is also a place to strengthen the bond between residents. The water used in this ritual is considered to have spiritual power, so before it begins, it is usually prayed for by the pemangku (traditional leader) so that it provides benefits for those who follow it.
In addition to its spiritual and social values, Siat Yeh also attracts tourists who want to witness first-hand the rich Balinese culture. This tradition is often held in conjunction with major religious ceremonies, such as Melasti or cleansing before Nyepi Day. By maintaining local wisdom, Siat Yeh has become one of the cultural heritages that continues to be preserved in Badung.
